MariMar is a Filipino drama series broadcast by GMA Network starring Megan Young, Tom Rodriguez, Lauren Young and Jaclyn Jose. It premiered on August 24, 2015 replacing Pari 'Koy on the network's GMA Telebabad block. It is also airing worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV.
This is GMA Network's second adaptation of the hit Televisa Mexicanovela which was originally played by Thalía. In 2007, GMA Network acquired the rights to locally remake MariMar and Marian Rivera was given the title role, opposite Dingdong Dantes who portrayed the role of her love interest Sergio.
The second adaptation of MariMar is Megan Young's first title role after winning the Miss World crown in 2013. This is also her comeback project in GMA Network after leaving in 2007 to transfer to ABS-CBN.[4] Prior to this, Megan was part of the second batch of the reality-talent search Starstruck which launched the career of many GMA artists. Megan is also set to host the sixth edition of Starstruck which will premiere on September 7, 2015.
Retail business heir GUSTAVO ALDAMA had a whirlwind romance with poor working undergrad MIA. Pilit silang pinaghihiwalay ng mga Aldama but he went ahead and eloped with her. Because of this, Gustavo was cut off from his family and his inheritance. Mia gets pregnant and Gustavo struggles to make a life for himself and his family. After Bella is born, Gustavo's parents visit them and tell Gustavo that they want him to come back. They are now willing to accept Gustavo's new family. Gustavo goes back to the family business where he will work with his ex-girlfriend, Brenda, whom his parents still want for her. Brenda herself tells Mia that Gustavo is having an affair with her. Mia runs away with baby Bella and rides a boat to go to her sister who works at a resort. On the way, the boat hits an oil tanker which explodes. Gustavo follows on a sailboat and tries to save Mia and Bella but only saves Mia. They will not be able to find Bella anymore. What they don’t know is that baby Bella has floated away in her bassinet. Makakalapit sa fishing boat ni CRUZ PEREZ. Dadalhin niya ang baby sa asawang si PANCHO PEREZ. Sabik sa anak ang dalawa at kukupkupin ang sanggol as she is a blessing. Tatawagin nilang MARIMAR ang bata dahil biyaya daw ito galing sa dagat. Meanwhile, back to Mia and Gustavo - the added strain of losing their baby is the last nail to the coffin. Tuluyang maghihiwalay ang mag-asawa. Lalaking busog sa pagmamahal si Marimar. Dadaan ang madaming mga taon, magdadalaga si Marimar at makikilala siya na pinakamagaling sumisid sa isla. Naging kabuhayan ni Marimar ang magsisid para sa perlas. She sells her pearls all over the island, and with a kariton as stage, she dances her signature dance to get people’s attention. Sa ganitong paraan siya unang masisilayan ni SERGIO SANTIBANEZ, a spoiled trust fund kid with devilishly good looks. Walang trabaho at baon sa utang ang party boy na si Sergio. Gusto na niyang makuha ang kanyang inheritance to pay off his loans. Payag naman ang ama niyang si RENATO, pero may catch. Gusto daw nitong mag-asawa si Sergio, with hopes of taming him. Irereto sa kanya si ANTONIA, sosyalerang anak ni Angelika. Makakaisip ng scheme si Sergio. Gusto niyang iuwi si Marimar at ipakilala as his bride. Eventually mahuhulog si Sergio kay Marimar. Mabubuntis siya. Pero api siya sa puder ng mga Santibanez, laging nilalait at pinapahirapan ni Angelika. Maawa sa buntis na asawa kaya’t magkukusa si Sergio to work in Manila. Pero hindi magpapaawat sina Angelika at Antonia. Hinintay nilang umalis si Sergio for work, saka palalabasin ni Angelika na may affair sina Antonia at Sergio. Angelika plots and makes Nicandro burn down Pancho's seaside hut. Halos sumabog sa galit si Marimar. Inabandona siya ni Sergio, buntis siya’t walang karamay. Magdedesisyon siyang iwan ang San Martin de Porres. Balang araw, babalik siya dito at maghihiganti. Marimar gives birth prematurely to a baby girl whom she names CRUZITA. Pupuntahan niya si CORAZON, na namamasukan ngayon na platera sa isang jewelery manufacturer. Ipapasok siya ni Corazon sa jewelry factory. Makukuhang kliente ng amo nila ang ALDAMA LUXURY GROUP. Magaling at unique ang pearly jewelry designs ni Marimar at nagiging kilala na ito. When he sees the work of Marimar, hangang hanga ang head ng Aldama group, ang ama ni Marimar na si Gustavo. Hanggang sa lumabas ang totoo na si Marimar ang anak ni Gustavo. Bibihisan, paaaralin at gagawing sophisticated si Marimar and she will be known as Bella Aldama. As Bella, she vows revenge sa lahat ng nanakit sa kanya.
